FATAL ACCIDENT ON BOARD, THE UNDINE.
A MAN OVERBOARD,
Wiliam Frbderick Frttsher, a young man employed as a seaman on board the Undine, cutter, was lost overboard while the vessel was off Wangarei on her way to Auckland from Hokianga yesterday morning. A fresh breeze was blowing from the N.W. at the time, and a moderate sea was running. Deceased, when the accident happened, was in the act of slacking off the main-sheet. Just at the momeut the rope was free of the cleat, the vessel gave a lurch, and the sheet running out suddenly, over-balanced him over the aide. Cautain Miller at once gave orders to round an a boat was lowered within three
minutes of the accident, but although every* attempt was made to find the unfortunate man, it was without success. He could not swim, and there is scarcely a doubt he sank at once. Deceased was a native of Hull, and is not known to have any relatives in the colony. He was a very steady man, and was preparing to pass as mate.
