SPORTS AT THE QUARANTINE STATION.
[F£OM AN ERRATIC CORRESPONDENT.]
Tub Government ought to send a parson down here. He might make some money by splicing the young folks. We are getting up our appetites. There is an ample supply of eatables and drinkables, but the water is not good. Old Barnsley (this is the disrespectful way the quarantine master is alluded to) is a jolly old cock. Two of the girls are having some fun by making desperate love to him. He, poor fellow, evidently thinks they are in earnest, and is quite bashful for an old geatleman. Perhaps they are, but, you sec, both can't have him, so what's to be done ?
There was great fun at the sports yesterday. We managed to collect £5 for prizes, aad are indebted to Messrs Criaickshauk for £2. Some of the prizes were very good—one was a piece of brimstone ; and another, one pint of Condy's disinfecting fluid. So you see we are anxious to assist the authorities every way. The sack race was grand ; also, throwing the hammer, a 161b piece of lead at the end of a stick. It was precipitated a distance of 80 feet. One yoimg Scotchman, getting excited, said he "could caw the hoose doon wi' it."
