GREAT AMERICAN CIRCUS.

In the present dearth of amusements the public will welcome the arrival of the Great American Circus. The recollection of the great success of Chiarim's Circus is stiU fresh in Auckland, and when it is announced that mauy of the performers in that troupe have now re-appeared, little more is needed to be said to ensure for the newly-arrived company success m the season they propose remaining m our city A huge marquee is to be erected on the Market Reserve capable of seating 1000 persons, and on Monday evening next the first performance will be given. We understand that several of the members of the company have only recently returned from extended tours in ladia and China, where they picked up some very interesting features of their entertainment. Conspicuous lin point of merit in the attractions which the Troupe possess are the wonderful trained horses and trick-ponies. Jugglers, gymnasts, equilibrists, contortionists, jesters, vaulters, and tumblers are also comprised in the troupe. Dick Turpin s ride to York, made so famous by the graphic narrative contaiained in Harrison Ainsworth s novel of Rookwood, is the great central piece for Monday. Among other well-known names we see in the bills those of Mdlle. Gracie and Signor A. Gonzdez. Mr George Gilham the "undisputed champion bare-backed rider of the world," has be^n engaged specially for the trip through New Zealand. This is an admirable performance for parents to take their children to.
