DUNEDIN.

(From our own Correspondent.)

- This day. George Eendall, carrier, was drowned while crossing the Waipoie liver with a load of timber.

Mr Dickson, of Porfcabello's, score was 27 at 200, 24 at 400, 24 at 500, and 23 at 600. The Artillery competed yesterday, the scores being—Lieut. Muir, 90 ; Gunner Muir, 87 ; Gunner Adams, late of Tokomairiro, 83.

The evidence in the Comet case shewed that Mcllroy, when negotiating with the men, was part owner of the vessel then under treaty, and fer sale to a firm for whom Martin acted as agent. Mr Bathgate, in dismissing the information, said the complication arose from Martin not conducting his business in a proper way, and Mcllroy, under the circumstances, was justified in thinking he was his agent. There was a scene in the Magistrate's Court yesterday afternoon. Messrs Barton and Stewart, counsel, had a disagreement during the hearing of a case in which they were engaged. Mr Mansford, the presiding magistrate, interfered, saying Mr Barton had been precipate. The latter re tori ed that the Bench had no right to interfere, and asked for an adjournment of the case to allow his client to gefc another solicitor. Mr Mansford refused, whereupon Mr Barton left the Court, declaiinghe would neverconduct another case while Mr Mansford piosided.
