(From our own Correspondent). This day. The deep leads at Cromwell are coming into favour through the company's successful fishings. A gigantic tunnel enterprise has just been started at Bendigo to drive across half-a-dozen reefs, including the best in the district, at depths lower than has hitherto known in the province. There is a great demand for the shares, the whole, some f40,000, being taken up in a day. . Mr Bathgate strongly supports the police '& a prosecution of sly grog-sellers. There *as a strong passage of arms in Court yesterday. Mr Harris, who defended in one °ase, hinted that the police had suborned witnesses, whereupon Sub-Inspector Mallard Ported that the observation was ungentletoanly.
