The s.s. Bowena left Russell at 2 p.m. yesterday with, fresh winds and smooth water, and arrived in Auckland at 6 o'clock this morning. On the down trip, although encumbered by having to tow a large barge, the Rowena reached the Bay in 18 hours. Cargo :—lO4 bales flax, 31 do. tow, 26 do. wool, 14 bags wool, 4 horses, A. Buckland"; 13 bags gum, Stone Brothers; 4 do. gum, Lewis Brothers ; 4 do. gum, Owen and Graham. Passengers :—Messrs. S. B. Biss, Moore, Andrews, Capt. Jackson, J. Busby, Ct.pt. Barker, Capfc. Farquhar, Stephens, Lodder, Coleman, Gray, Ledger, J. Wrigley, Stephenson, Watkins, C Mock, Revs^ Rouse and Carr, Mrs. George Kelly, and six in the steerage. We are happy to state that the barque Speedwell, about which some anxiety has been expressed owing to her not having arrived at Kaipara after being more than 40 days out from Lyttelfcon, reached port last Tuesday—all well. She had been driven South by northerly gales. Mr W. Lodder and Captain Farquhar, who accompanied the p.s. Golden- Crown to Russeil, returned this morning by the Rowena.

The schooner Papua has cleared out to day Rarotonga with a cargo of timber and general merchandise, principally shipped by Messrs Cruickshank and Co., the agents of the vessel. The Papua was to sail this evening. The brig Syren is loading at the Breakwater for the South.

The barque Memento has hauled into the stream, and will sail for .Newcastle probably this evening. The s.s. Sir Donald arrived at Napier from Auckland at six o'clock yesterday morning. A large barque named the Enoch Talbofc put into Tahiti a few days before the Coronet left, leaking seriously. She was laden with grains, and bound from Baker's Island to Cork. Captain Talbot is the name of the master, who intended selling the vessel and cargo if he could find a purchaser. The three-masted Echooner Mera, Captain Pallant, arrived in the Xaipara on Monday last.

The schooner Fiery Cross has cleared out for jSapier via Tairua with a cargo of timber, shipped by Preece, Howard and Co. The barque Brunette has cleai'ed out today with a cargo of timber to be shipped from Wangaroa to Sydney. The schooner Swallow has cleared with stores for Tairua, and the cutter Fawn in ballast for Russell.

After discharging her cargo, the Kohinoor will proceed to Kaipara to load with timber. Captain Burgess came up from Motuihi this morning, bringing with him the papers of the ship Hydaspes, now in quarantine. Both the worthy pilot and the documents ha?e boen nearly frizzled up with the amount of fumigation they have had. to undergo. The immigrants were being landed on the island. There are no fresh cases of disease.

The barque Ferndale is now rapidly filling up with a cargo for London. Captain Wigzell hopes to be away before the end of the month.

According to latest accounts the ship Zealandia is to wait here for instructions instead of proceeding to Sydney.
