During a discussion in the House of Lords on the Fijian question, Earl Belmore, the Dnke of Manchester, and Earl Kimberley approved of the annexation. Viscount Canterbury protested, and Earl Granville argued that as during the previous Parliament any discussions against its being constituted a Crown Colony was of a severe type.
