ENGLISH OPERA COMPANY.

The favourite opera of " Maritana" was repeated last, night by the English Opera Company at the Prince of Wales. The house was fairly filled. The east of characters was the same as in the first representation. As a whole the performance last night was more complete than its predecessor. Miss Alice May was in excellent voice, and was encored in "Scenes that are brightest." She also displayed the most touching emotion in the supplicatory invocation "Sainted Mother." Por this she was rewarded with a shower of flowers. Mr H. Hallam, as Don Csesar, sang with more vigour than on Monday. This was noticeable in the cavatina " Let me like a Soldier fall." The song "There is a flower that bloomefch " was also given tastefully and'well. Mr Rainford's Don. Jobo who a most meritorious piece of acting and vocalisation. He was encored for his fine rendering of "In happy moments, day by day. " Miss Lambert sang " Alas those chimes so softly pealing" with a fine pathetic simplicity. Mr. Levison displayed considerable improvement from Monday, in his rendering of the part of the King. The orchestral accompaniment was conspicuous for its judicious marking of time and expression. The pianissimos were excellent. Mr Allen may be congratulated for, the fine state of discipline of his staff. To-night the " Grand Dachess" is to be reproduced.
