INEBRIATION,

Mary Burke, an old offender, John Nash, and Daniel Aching, were severally, charged with this offence. Mary was fined 20s, John 10s. Aching did not appear,' and his bail was forfeited. POOR JACK. John Stewart, a seaman, was charged with a breach of the Merchant Shipping Act with using abusive and threatening language towards the master of the Queen of Nations on the 10th inst. A woman well known to the police, named Tillie Morgan, was brought up uader the Vagrant Act, charged with having no visible lawful means of obtaining a livelihood. George Marsh was brought up on a charge of using obscene language and indecent exposure in : Wakefield-street on the 10th inst. Prisoner pleaded not guilty. Mr- George Goldie was in Wakefield-street yesterday afternoon and saw the prisoner's conduct, which was very bad. James Kempsey corroborated Mr Goldie's statement. Ladies were passing at the time. Prisoner was three sheets in the wind. ~ Fourteen days' imprisonment with- hard labour. TAKING MINE EASE. Joseph Cleary, a middle-aged man of rude exterior and a face dreadfully cut, was charged under the Vagrant Act with being found on the premises of John Milton, of Wellesley-street, lasb night without lawful excuse.

Prisoner said he was guilty. He had met with an accident and had crept on to Mr. Milton's verandah for a little rest. He had co tie to Auckland with the view of getting a ship to London. William Westwood was charged with unlawfully assaulting his wife Annie by beating her on. the 20th of May, -with kicking her on the 18th of June, and with threatening to kill his wife Annie with an axe on the 7th of May. '.--'' Prisoner pleaded not guilty. Mr Laishley appeared for the prosecutrix, and Mr Joy for the accused.

Mr Joy asked .that the case be remanded until Thursday^ next as it was probable that some satisfactory arrangement might be made between the parties. ,

Mr Laishley had no objection to such a course.

r Dr Nicholson said that he as well as other witnesses had been subpoenaed in this case, and he thought that as his time was very valuable he should be paid. He had attended many times at this Court to give evidence and had never yet received a fee. His Worship said he (Dr Nicholson) had been very badly used. This matter should be seen to, as it was not right that medical men should go unrewarded. The case was then remanded until Thursday next, defendant finding substantial bail. STEALING- A YOUNG WOMAN'S CLOTHES.. Thomas Hasler was charged with Btealing a box of wearing apparel, the property of Caroline Jennings, oh the 10th inst. Mr Broham stated that the box was stolen from the Exchange hotel, and as he had not sufficient time to communicate with Miss Jennings he would ask for a remand.

Remanded till Wednesday next. ALLEGED MURDER AT PIKIRI. Charles Dyer,: a middle-aged man, was brought up on a.charge of feloniously killing and slaying one El iza Battersea lat Pikiri in the province of Auckland on the Bth July' Mr U6y appeared for the accused,' and pleaded not guilty.
