FATAL DUEL.
Duelling is becoming frequent. : No less thaa three took place on 27th of June,—two of minor importance, and the other between Lieutenants Devarenne and M. Guillevain, of the Gendarmes, in which the latter was mortally wounded, and died on the ground from internal hemorrhage. They had permission to fight from the Governor, who attended the funeral, and addressed the soldiers on the necessity of upholding their honour even to the loss of life. It is reported that the victor rhad been informed by the commandant of hiß regiment that he must either fight his adversary or stand his trial by court martial for some breach of military
etiquette in whlca the honor of M, Guille. vain was concerned.
