The Paterson took took her departure from the Manukau this morning for Wellington. She takes no passengers or cargo. There was no appearance of the s.s. Pretty Jane from Gisborne up to the time of our going to press. Messrs Hanson and Seller's new cutter, the Brunette, is fitting out for her first trip to the Bay of Plenty. The Brunette "was built by White ofgMercury Bay, and is a very useful looking craft of about 24 tons. The schooner "Kenilworth is loading for another trip tc the Islands. The Dauntless has nearly finished loading for New Caledonia and Norfolk Island. Her departure is fixed for Saturday. The brig Thomas and Henry ia to load at Dtmedin for this port. The p.s. Golden Crown arrived from the Thames at 3 o'clock this afternoon. The ship Huntly Castle cleared out yesterday in ballast for Portland, Oregon, and took her departure this morning. # The schooner Atlantic has cleared with a cargo of timber, &c., for Napier. The large number of vessels at present unloading and loading at the wharf renders business there lively at present. All our stevedores and wharf officers are unusually busy. We should like to see the exports more commensurate with the imports ; but for this we must have patience. The Loch Awe, after discharging, is chartered to proceed to San Francisco in ballast, and there load fctaxo-Sa'^La^^---^' — -TX& American barque Moneynick, wnicn ■we announced some few days ago had been sold by Captain Marshall to Messrs Hancock and Jagger, was measured yesterday by the Customs officers, and registered as a British ship. Her tonnage, under the new measurement, is 269 tons, or about 15 tons less than her American estimate. Under the new ownership Captain John Moreton, for a short time captain of the Seagull, has been placed in command, with Mr Mitchell, late of the barque Glimpse, as chief officer. _ The Moneynick is to "be placed in the timber trade. She has already taken in a portion, of her ballast since discharging. She hauled off from the Wharf'this morning, and will take in the rest of her ballast in the stream. Her departure for Hokianga, where she is to load? timber for Lyttelton, will take place probably to-morrow evening. It was reported that the Moneycick wasT;o change her name, but. this is not the case; indeed under the new law she would not be permitted to dojihis. It may not be generally known tbat'Sfvessel vhich has once the American flag, and changed her colours, cannot again be registered as an American ship. The object of this law it may be presumed is protection to American shipbuilders.

The barque Freetrader which was announced as loading at Dunedin for this port has had her destination altered to Hobart Town. She sailed, for that port on the 20th ulfc.

Captain Bowton, Jlate chief officer of the s.s. Wellington, takes command of the fine schooner Marmfon in the place of Captain McLeod. The Marmion leaves for Kaipara to-morrow evening. She is there to load timber for Wellington. . The ketch Speedwell has cleared for Russell in ballast. - . .
