A conference between the Council of the _few Zealand University and a -deputation from the Otago University and Canterbury College was occupied all yesterday's sitting. It was. mutually agreed that a new University Act should be drafted by the Council embodying the terms and conditions on which the affiliation of the Southern colleges should be carried put. The drafted Bill will be considered next sitting.

At 11 o'clock yesterday morning a number of petitions numerously signed for closing several public houses were presented at the Eesident Magistrate Court but refused because they were too late. A grand hall took place at the Theatre last night given by Mr Brogden. Over five hundred were present, amongst them being Mr Vogel, Mrs Vogel, the* Superintendent, Mayor and members of the Legislative. The a__r passed off satisfactorily.
