THE FRANKLIN ELECTION.
So suld Archie, he has gaen awa, And never said to us quid day. H ad he been ought of a trump ava, He had hae left us a year's pay. For Guid kens he did little fort, Or his fellow, Buckland, either ; It had been better spent on ither sport Than to hear the twa cuifs blether. Noo, for the craw that's floun awa, Five sparrows they come chirping, They say they'll gie us better law, If we'll but choose the richt ane. Guid kens they're a' a hazy lot If by their speech you judge them ; Four o' the fattest we maun pot. An* gie the pickings to the puir ane. But ere their necks we thraw aboot, Let's carefully inspect them, Or in a bag their feathers put, Or in any way dissect them. There's Dargaville, in politic skill Said naetiling on the hustings, •■■•' He kens fu' weel we had our fill, No' lang syne, o' his bunkum. Noo, here is hope in F. H. Troup, Wha snaps his fingers at them,-. Sir Julius he will soon turn obt, Then the Premier's in for Franklin. But 'Woodward* ! ! ! He intends to gaurd Great Julius and his scheming, • The Public Works, and the Immigrants, Whioh to our shores are teeming. Then butter and cheese will sell wi' ease, At prices somewhat charming; ' Then Franklin boys lay aside your toys, And wire in to the farming. Noo there's Joe May, who most folks say Is next to the cantankerous Gillies. Some auld freen'st debt he'll try to pay, If Franklin's purse he get haud o'. Then wha comes next but Guidfellow, Wull, A chiel rare to be found : The sinking fund): he'll dig it up, And scatter it all around. So that the puir will got their share O a' the hidden treasure, Then vote wi' me, and j'ou shall see That Franklin gets heap'd up measure. S.R.P. * It is generally believed that this individual wants a billet. t The Busby claim. t Vide Mr G's .Nomination Speech^
