POLICE COURT.—This Day.
(Before Thomas Beckham, Esq. ,"R, jn VAGRANCY. Mary Doran, a very old offender, who tad spent nearly two years in prison for various offences, was brought up under {Je Vagrancy Act charged with using vot abusive and filthy language last evenings Mills Lane.
Mr Brohatn said this was a very bad case and the language was used in the presence of a number of children.
Prisoner confessed her guilt, but begged to be let off this time as she intended to go to service, and she could assure his Worship that she would not appear before him for at least six months.
The Court sentenced her to pay a fine of £5, or go to prison for three months, audlw subjected, to hard labour.
A SUMMONS CASE,
Matthew Carroll was summoned to slow cause why he failed to obey an order of the Court to pay certain arrears—£l 13s 7dtowards the support of his child in the Industrial School. ■:' .
Defendant did not appear, butMrßrohan stated to the Court that Carroll had paid 16s towards the amount-, and promised to pay a further instalment on Monday next. He thought it was better to accept the arrean in this way than press for payment. , Hi 3 Worship agreed with Mr Broham,and considered that his suggestion was better. than going to extremities where persons evinced a disposition to pay.
