STATISTICS OF CRIME.

A return she-wing the number of cases dealt with by the Auckland and Thames Police Courts and the Courts around Auckland showthat during 1872 2,706 arrests were made, 2,284 of whom were males, and 422 females. Of those arrested 2,447 were convicted, and 252 discharged. In addition to the above 1,024 persons were brought up on summonses, and 832 of these were convicted. In the aggregate .1,779 persons were arrested for drunkenness. "We append a list of the most common offences.
