The rejection of the vote in favour of dissolution has operated favourably to the Republican cause. The Monarchists have since manifested a spirit of conciliation towards the Government. The Assembly has passed a Bill restoring the property of the Orleanist princes. The dismissal of the Mayor of Nantes, for insufficiently protecting the Catholic pilgrims to the mystery of the Virgin at Lounles, is considered an indication of a Conservative policy. December 21. The French squadron has been ordered to Athens in consequence of expected complications arising out of the Laurium mine question. It is hoped the dispute will be anticipated. Austi'ia, Germany, and Russia recommend Greece to satisfy the demands of France and Italy.
