TfIXTRACT from a report on an Analysis JjJ of Gardner & Co.'s " X India" Pale Ale, made by Professor Alfred S. Taylor, M.D., F.R.S., of G-uy's Hospital, London : — "I believe this to be a sample of good, wholesome, and genuine Beer, sufficiently strong in alcohol to render it a pleasant stimulant, and to confer on it keeping properties. The mineral matter or ash is in small proportion, no greater than that which should be found in a genuine decoction of malt. It consists of alkaline, phosphate, and chloride salt?, which are naturally found in the blood, and which may be regarded as necessary constituents of our daily food. In the form and proportion in which tbey exist in this sample they are conducive to health, and confer wholesome properties on the Ale. "As to the quality of the Ale for Indian consumption, I do not see that it admits of any improvement. It has the genuine taste which only malt and hops of good quality skilfully proportioned can give. " Apart from the results of this chemical analysis, which has been made for my own satisfaction, I have U3ed this Ale as an article of diet for several weeks, and I find it to beas wholesome and proper for daily use as its chemical composition indicates.
