Drunkenness. —Two persons were eaoh fined ss. and costs, with the alternative of 24 hours' imprisonment.
Impounding Aor.—The following were fined for allowing cattle to stray in public place*;,.. C. Rosenthal, 2s 6d ; WVL. Rodgers, 2s 6d; James Ryan, an old offender, 10s; John Mills, Is ; and E. "Waters, ss.
Municipal Police Act. — Alexander Donaldson was fined 5s and costs for driving a dray without reins to the horse.— G. Hill, for being away from his vehicle while it was in motion, was fined in a similar amount. — G O'Connor, tor allowing his goat to stray, was fined 2s 6d.—D. Thompson was fined tor a similar offence in a similar amount. — 51, Sheehan was fined in a like [IJVuJ.t/ iv. .— 0 _ J __ 0. Arthur was charged with "obstructing'the public footpath, by placinggoods upon it.— An error had been made in the name, and on the motion of Mr. J. B. Russell, who appeared for Mr. Arthur, the case was struck off.— T. W. Doonin was charged with a similar offence. Sergeant Walker deposed that bags of sugar had been placed by defendant on tbe footpath in Queen-street, and had npt been removed when the police called on defendant to take them away.— Similar evidence was given by the police ; and Mr. Doonin called J. W. Robinson, one of his assistants, to prove that the sugar had been unavoidably left on the pavement on account of the unreasonable hour at which it was delivered.—The case was dismissed with a caution.
