The Caledonian.—lf it were possible to imagine any stone richer than that which was on view at the Bank of New Zealand and at the Hauraki battery yesterday, we should say that some of the stone taken out of the Caledonian on Wednesday night and yesterday, morning were so. In place of'saying gold was visible in the stone, we may truly say that no stone was visible in the gold. Specimen crushing continues. There were 1339 ounces lodged in the bank this morning, increasing the total quantity on hand to 6302 ounces, and there are now two heavy retorts on the fire. Another deposit of I,776"ouncea was made -' last evening. There Srere two of the richest specimens ever found^in the mine^ broken out this morning, besides five hundredweight of good specimens from the new-run-of gold, towards the Ofcajjo. There was a very little of the reef broken out' yesterday from the run of gold. Another lot of gold will be lodged this morning. The Lowland Lass.t—The reef met with a day or two ago in the Lowland llass is turning out richer than was expected. At first gold was only discernible when the stone wa« broken up and washed, but since then, gold has been met with which 'is visible in the stone. The reef has not yet been cut through, although in one corner it has been penetrated three feet. This company deserves success. The present drive.is'24o feet,: and j the reef now iv hand is that in which gold was first struck in the .Vulcan; Fifty feet more driving will cut the lode from which the Vulcan Company is now taking out such rich stone.
