DR. CROKE AT COROMANDEL.
On Thursday last, the Rt. Rev. Dr. Croke visited Coromandel, and was received by a committee of gentlemen on horseback. He was escorted to the house of Mr. Lynch, and the following address was read by Mr. McCabe :—" On behalf of the Roman Catholics of Coromandel, we greet youi1 Lordship with a hearty welcome on your first visit to this remote part of the extensive diocese under your pastoral charge. At the same time we sincerely thank you for the promptitude with which you hare come to attend to the spiritual and temporal wants of the district. We most earnestly trust and pray that your Lordship may be eminently successful in the discharge of the important duties entrusted to your care, and that your life may long be spared to carry on the glorious work assigned you by our Holy Father. Wo also hope that your Lordship will have no cause to regret leaving the dear old land Saint Patrick—to which our thoughts so oft fly back, that holy lale where the Church of Christ is glorious, notwithstanding the many persecution* to which it has been subjected. In conclusion, we trust thai yiiur Lordship will be satisfied wiih the district of Coromandel, and that your visits to us will be frequent in future.—Signed on behalf of the Cal holies of Coromandel, (Hero follow the signatures.) Curomandei,Jan.26,lß7l." —His Lordship lvplied, thanking the people for their cordiality, and passing any eulojjium upon the Roman Catholics of the district.
