WESLEYAN METHODIST SUN-DAY-SCHOOL, UNION-STREET.

Tiie annual soiree m connection with this Sunday-school took place yesterday evening. Tea was laid out in the school-room, and at half-past six o'clock the tables were crowded, and numbers had to wait until the first batch had been removed. The tables were filled three times, and there must have been upwards of three hundred people sat down to tea. The room was very tastefully decorated with flags and evergreens, and must have caused the committee no little trouble to get up, at so short a notice. The trays were presided over by the following ladies: —Mcsdames Cousens, Pclly, Bcecroft, Rhodes, YVhite, Mackey, Atkiu, Waterhouse, and Misses Coupland and Blakey. After tea, a public meeting was held, the Rev. Mr. Rigg presiding. The proceedings were opened with siuging and prayers. The Secretary read the report for the past year, by which it appeared there were on the books of the Sunday-school, 121 boys and 107 girls. There had been 73 scholars admitted during the past year, and 31- had left. The average morning attendance was 50 boys and 31 girls, and in the afternoon G7 boys and 54 girls —notwithstanding the difficulty of approach during the late severe wet weather. On fine Sundays the attendance was as high as 140 to 180- There were G male and seven female teachers. They were i 1 debted to one of the canvassers of the Auckland Sunday School Union for having added some scholars to the school; and during the past year some ninety volumes had been added to the library. Two class-rooms had been added, at a cost of £30, a sum which it was hoped the proceeds of this soiree would go far to liquidate. By the financial statement, it appeared that the receipts for the past year amounted to £44 19s 7d, and the expenditure i;7l 9s lid, leaving a deficiency of about £2G 10s.—Addresses were delivered by the Rev. Mr. Berry, Mr. James Coupland, Mr. Wrigloy, Mr. Parker, Mr. Battley, Mr. lTenms, Mr. Atkin, Mr. Arthur, and were listened to most attentively by the meeting—The proceedings were very appropriately diversified by singing, by the children of the Sabbath School. —The proceedings were brought to a termination by the benediction being pronounced by the Chairman. Altogether a most; pleasant and agreeable evening was spent.
