'IS Excellency the Lieutenant-Governor BJJ has directed the following clause ii Mutiny Act, 10 Vict., c. 12, to be publ for general information. " And be it enacted, that if any Person who shall in any part of Her Majesty's dominions, by words, or by any oilier weans xihutsoerer, directly or indirectly, procure any Soldier to desert, or shall by words, or by any otht means whatsoever, attempt to procure or persuade any Soldier to desert, and any person, who knowing that any Soldier is about to desert, shall aid or assist him in deserting, or knowing any Soldier to be a Deserte shall concenl such Deserter, or aid or am such Deserter in concealing himself, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanour. and shall on conviction thereof, be .liable to be punished by fine, or imprisonment, or both, as the Court before which such conviction shall take place may adjudge." And the Lieutenant-Governor directs notice to be hereby given, that no Timber, occupation, or other license, will be renewed by the Government, in favour of any Person who shall mid aiding or assisting any Soldier so uescrting, by harbouring, concealing, or emploving him, or in any other manner howsoever. RATIONS TO ROAD PARTIES. Colonial Secretary's Office, Auckland, Sept. 81/t, 1848. rpENDERS will be received at this Office, 1 imtiVnoon, on Wednesday, the 20th September, lor the supply of rations on the undermentioned scale, for Natives employed on the public Roads, for the period commencing on 1 lth October, 1848, and ending 31 st March, 1849. The Daily ration for each man to consist of—lib Fresh Pork lift Flour or Bread, and 12oz. Rice, or 21b Potatoes. The Flour or Bread to be of the best quality. The Rations must be delivered by the Contractor at such places as may be indicated by the Superintendent of Roads, before the hour of noon, on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday in each week. The number of Natives employed will vary from three to four hundred ; and any additional information which may be required respecting terms of the Contract, &c, together with forms of Tender, may be obtained on application to the Superintendent of Roads, at the Office of the Surveyor General. Security will be lequired fer the due performance of the Contiact, and the Tenders must be accompanied by a notification of consent of the parties proposed as Sureties.
