LADIES GUILD ENTERTAINED
On Tuesday afternoon Mrs W. R. Bartle, president, and Mrs W. Ramsay, Hon. secretary, entertained the members of the Ladies' Guild at a very enjoyable afternoon at Mrs W. R. Bartle's residence, Balguerie street, Akaroa. The afternoon was spent in games and competitions, Mrs Bruce winning the tape cuttings and Mrs Morcam the throwing of balls into a basket. A delightful afternoon tea was served.
Mrs Bartle gave a report on the recent sale of work and it was decided to hand over a substantial sum to the Management committee. The sum of £10 was donated towards the painting of the church.
Mrs Bruce on behalf of the Guild members move J a vote of thanks to Mesdames Bartle and Ramsay for the enjoyable afternoon and this was carried by acclamation.
Those present were Mesdames W. R. Bartle, W. Ramsay, T. H. Morcam, C. Pool, F. Keegan, J. Barrett, W. J. Edginton, Anderson, A. E. Kingston, R. Bruce, Gordon Hammond, C. Petterson, Ray Narbey and Miss Pollock.

Surgeon: "But, my dear sir, surely you dc not set the same low value on your life as your wife does?" « ''Brown is a rotten sort of chap. I asked him to lend me two pounds for a few days and he absolutely refused." "My dear fellow, this club's full of men like that. I'm another of them." "Isn't it wonderful the tnings that can be made from ordinary beef bones — piano keys, teeth, knife and fork nandles, and so on!" "Yes; and my landlady thinks that they ma!:© soup also."
