OBITUARY

MR DOUGLAS CURRY | 1-| Mr and Mvs S. D. Curry, Long Bay Road, received word yesterday that their youngest son, Douglas, aged 17, had died at Eketahuna. He had written a few days ago and was then in good health. No particulars were obtained and Mr and Mrs S. D. Curry left yesterday afternoon for Eketahuna. Douglas CuiTy was born and educated at Akaroa and only recentlyleft the Akaroa High School. Much sympathy is felt with Mr and Mrs Curry jn their sad loss.

MR J. D. McQUEEN, JNR. The death occurred on Thursday last at Christchurch, as the result of an accident, of Mr John Douglas McQueen jnr., of Holmes Bay, aged 30 years. Born at Kinloch, and educated at Little River, he was the eldest son of Mr and Mrs J. McQueen, Little River. He was a keen and popular sportsman and respected by all who knew him. For about ten years he acted as secretary of the Loyal Wkirewa Lodge of which he was a Past Grand Master. Also for a number of years he was secretary of the Banks Peninsula Collie Dog Club, the Star Tennis club and the Little River Atheletic Sports club. In 1933 he married Miss Betty Barclay of Little River. About twenty months ago he left to manage the estate of the late Mr G. G. Holmes, Holmes Bay. He leaves a widow and two sons.

The funeral took place at the Little River Cemetery on Saturday when several hundreds followed to pay their last tribute to their departed friend. The services a 1 St. Andrew's Church and at the graveside were conducted by the Rev. A. IT. Barnett and Mr L. Humphries read the service for the Loyal Wairewa Lodge. Hymns were played by members of the Lyttelton Salvation Army Band. The chief mourners were Mrs J. D. McQueen (wife), Mr and Mrs J. McQueen (mother and father), Mrs E. H. Lee, Fairlie (sister)," Miss Thelma McQuecn, Little River (sister) and Mr D. McQueen, Cheviot (brother). The pall bearers were Messrs C. M. Barclay, R. Barclay, T. A. H. Patten and L. Humphries, all past Grands of the Loyal Wairewa Lodge, Lodges represented were: Lyttelton District Officers, Loyal Hand and Heart (Pigeon Bay), Loyal Hand in Friendship (Okains Bay), Loyal Perseverance (Barrys Bay), Loyal City of Norwich Lyttelton Loyal Wairewa Lodge (Little River).
