The monthly meeting of the Le Bons Bay Womens Institute was held m the hall when Miss J. Dalglish (President) presided over a good attendance. Dr. Edginton gave a very interesting lecture on First Aid and Diet. Mrs Edginton kindly judged the competitions and made the following awards: Sponge Sandwich: Mrs G. H. McKay 1, Mrs L. D. McKay 2; Bowl of Spring flowers: Miss Jean Dalglish 1, Miss Graje Leonardo and Mrs H. Barker 2 (equal). The Hostesses were Mrs Stan. Hewitt and Miss J. Dalglish. Mrs L. M. Bailey was elected the delegate to attend the half yearlyconference to be held at Darfield. AKAROA BRANCH Monthly Meeting The monthly meeting was held on Tuesday last when Miss M. Jacobson, president, presided over a good attendance. The Canterbury Federation wrote notifying that the half yearly meeting would be held at the Memorial Hall, Darfield cn Thursday, October 26. Miss E. Le Lievre stated that arrangements had been made for all the Peninsula Institutes to club together and travel up in one bus, lea ving Akaroa at 7 a.m. The Chorlton-Little Akaloa Womens Division forwarded a revised schedule cf theiv show. Cheap Excursions The South Canterbury Federation wrote in regard to excursion trips to Queenstown and the Wellington Exhibition. A big reduction had been obtained on the fares. Pioneer Tales The Dominion Federation forwarded a sample copy of the "Pioneer Tales" and asked members to purchase the book. Orders could be sent in at once. The manager 3ZB wrote thanking the Institute for letter of appreciation and stated that they were very willing to put, Institute talks over the air. Emergency Precautions The Canterbury Federation wrote in regard to emergency precautions in event of war or National disaster. The president said that this matter was being discussed at a meeting at Duvauchelle called by the Akaroa County Council and the Institute should be represented. Mrs F. C. Newton moved the President represent the Institute; seconded by Mrs Glynan and carried. Mrs C. Dalboth reported on the steps taken at a public meeting to form a Red Cross branch at Akaroa. Institute Baby's Gift The president handed to Mrs Rex Davis the Institute's gift to all Institute members babies, Mrs Davis briefly thanking them for the gift. Miss E. Jacobson made an appeal for old fashioned dresses up to 1900, of Women and Children to be used at the Dress Parade in the Canterbury Court at the Wellington Exhibition on January 30, 1940 Impromptu Epeeches There was a good response to the Impromptu speeches, the subjects being chosen by DuW. J. Edginton.. Golden Thread Mrs C. B. Arnold continued the Golden Thread series with an account of the life of John Keats. Mrs Maslin gave a number of readings from Keats' works, and at the conclusion hearty votes of thanks were passed to Mesdames C. B. Arnold and Maslin by acclamation. Competitions The competitions resulted as folios— Best Bloom: Miss D. Leete 1, Mrs G. A. Hammond 2, Mrs C. C. Narbey, Mioses E. Le Lievre and M. Jacobson 3 (equrl); Tartlets: Mrs G. A. Hammond 1, Mrs C. Petterson 2. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames E. Glynan, G. A. Hammond, R. Bruce, C. Dalbeth and H. W oodill. Bring and Buy Mrs H. W oodill was in charge of a Bring and Buy table which netted lis 6d.
