SITTING AT AKAROA A sitting of the court was held at Akaroa yesterday before Mr . •, Young, S.M. Judgment By Default Judgment for costs 16s was given in the case Banks Peninsula Electric Power Board (Mr Holmes) v A. G. Hastie. Judgment by default was given in Akaroa Mail Co. Ltd., (Mi Amodeo) v Mrs R. Allan for costs £1. Judgment by default was given in Banks Peninsula Electric Power Board (Mr Holmes) vN.C, Hammond for 8s 3d and costs Bs. Employment of Non-Unionists E. A. Toomath, Inspector of Awards proceeded against A. J. Read, claiming the sum of £10 'for on three counts employing J. C. Munro, a non-unionist, G. Dann, a non-unionist, and for failing to pay J. C. Munro the wages piovided under the award. Mr Amodeo, who appeared for defendant explained that in June, 1938.. the Labour Department had approachMr Read as to the wages to be paid and stated that 2s 2£d per hour were the wages to be paid to a casual ployee. Mr Read paid Munro at thav rate and continued to do so. In March. 1939, the Labour Department saw Mr Read and stated that Munro should have been paid a weekly wage. Gi; Read's attention being called to this he immediately paid to the Labour Department for Munro the difference between the casual rate and the wekly wage. Munro was now being paid the weekly rate of wages. j The magistrate gave judgment for a penalty of £2 on the first countfailing to pay the correct wages, and 10s on each of the second and thirc counts, for the employment of non unionists. Judgment Summons Case In the judgment summons case G A. E. Le Lievie (Mr Holmes( v Ror Rhodes, claim £14 2s 6d, the case was adjourned by the court until July 13
