PENINSULA SALEYARDS CO. LTD.

WATER SUPPLY FOR TROUGH At the monthly meeting of directors of the above company there were present Messrs W. W. Williams (chairman), S. J. Vogan, A. R. Haylock and T. Stewart. Apologies were received from Mr C. B. Thacker and Mr C. W. Leete (secretary).. The trapping of all springs on the company's property for the supply of a concrete water trough was discussed . It was decided this would have a twofold advantage as it would provide water for stock and .also drain the property during the winter months. Arrangements were made to have the installation carried out as soon as the contractor was available. Mr M. H. Dunn was authorized to collect all grazing fees for stock from the Thursday preceeding the monthly sale until the Saturday after the sale. Repair work was authorized for front of yards and to the saleyards' buildings.

I How long does it take to smoke a : ton of tobacco? It has taken an old Canterbury resident — an inveterate lover of the weed—just 73 years. He commenced to smoke when he was 13 years old, is now 86, and it still smoking. He was a cabin-boy when he leaned to smoke, and for three-quart-ers of a century has found comfort and solace in his! pipe. Anti-tobacco-ites declare smoking shortens life. But there is reason to believe (as in this case) that it often prolongs it. Good and pure tobacco, containing but little nicotine undoubtedly benefits the health because it lessens nervous strain and banishes the 'blues.' New Zealanders are fortunate in that respect, Our Dominion tobacco is so pure that many doctors smoke it habitually and recommend it to their patients. It is roasted, and the 'bite' taken clean out of it. A more delightful tobacco or a less harmful one the world does not produce. The five brands are: Riverhead Gold. Desert Gold, Navy Cut No. 3, Cavendish, and Cut Plug No. 10.
