Speaking of the annual functions held to do honour to Fire Brigade by the townspeople, iMr W. H. Candy said in Lyttelton they had a large function at which practically the whole town.' was represented' and the ladies as well. The Hon. members entertained the firemen. Pie thought Akaroa people should do the same and take the Oddfellows' Hall for the function. iMr H. C. Dicrck, on behrlf of the Hon. Members, spoke of the good' work volunteer brigades did! and it was a pleasure and fornfort to live in a town where a well organised l brigade existed. He had lived in, Cheviot where there was 1 no brigade and no water and during his residence there had' been six or seven fires and all they could do was to stand by and see the buildings burned to the ground.
