AKAROA BROUGH COUNSIL.

A meeting of this Council was held on Wednesday evening. Foreman's Report. "The work done since last meeting- consists of attending to Main road. Have renewed) sewe" on School road, also put on- 1 extra rail and 1 netting at big culvert below the School. Put in an extra stringer in bridge at Hammond's corner where decking was damaged by tractor. Carted tins off Beach road and attended to blocked 1 drains. Also filled in ruts on road beyond Boatsheds and attended l to other general work." Seconded iby Cr Pool and l carried. RESERVES COMMITTEE. 'Cr MaseifieW, Chairman of the Reserves Committee, moved the adop-1 tion of the gardener's report as under. Gardener's Report. "I have 1 to report that the work for the past two weeks consisted of planting the fence and renovating front at' Bank of New Zealand. About one hundred dozen tomatoes haive been transplanted in the glass house, also a good number of other plants and a general clean up of Hospi'tal Grounds. A start has been made on the cleaning and digging of French Cemetery plot. The heating in glass house has been so far satisfactory. .All 1 general work has had. attention." Seconded by Cr. Pool said that he had been rung '' up by an engineer of the Marine De- ' partment who wanted to kuow if a 1 boat slip were needed in Akaroa, if 1 the Akaroa Borough Council wouW 1 make a grant, what the fees would \ amount to for use of the slip and the 1 cost of the erection' of the slip. Cr. - 1 Pocl said that he pointed out the slit) 1 was needed' urgently and l that at : least 20 boats would use it. The charges in other places were 7s 6d 1 to 15s according to the size of the boats. He asked whether the Coun- 1 cil would make a grant on next year's estimates if the Department erected a slip. He had said the slip would cost about £100. The engineer was ringing hin:< up again when he said he would report the Council's decision.

Cr. Leete asked 1 if the fishermen paid the Akaroa County Council any amount before when the boat slip was under their jurisdiction. Cr. Pool said the slip was outside the Borough and the fishermen never received an account for the use of the slip. Nobody was in charge and the late Mr Bruce had the key.

Morcom moved the Town Clerk write to the 'Marine Department getting all information and the Council deal with the matter at next meeting j seconded 1 by C : r. McCaughan and carried. The Clerk said that he received a complaint from' the Bruce Hotel about the din children made on the Britomart 'Reserve. They were breaking down the flotwers and trees. Cr. Taylor moved l the Police be ask ed to take steps in the matter: seconded by Cr. Williams and carried. 'i he Clerk said: he had had a i.ew IfJi'k put on the Pavilion' and the High School boys had l tried to tear the netting off the windows instead of enquiring for the key. The Mayor moved the Headmaster be written to about the matter and informed the boys must obtain a key from' the Town Clerk; seconded by Cr. Taylor and carried The Mayor sai'd' Mr Heinzman called about the path to the Green's Point Memorial. He wanted the Council to carry out the work of putting down the path and making the turnstile. Cr. 'Maselfield moved that the Council would l be prepared' to call tenders for the road' and send on the price for the -lettering; but would take no responsibility after the road was con'.pleted. Seconded by Cr Williams and carried. The Clerk reported the- Shell Company had given two 36 gallon drums of their spray mixture and it was decided to thank them for the gift.
