AKAROA SECONDARY SCHOOL.
iCiABINiET, APPROVES OF SITE PUIRCIHASE.
Word- was received on Wednesday by the Akaroai High School Board arid District High School Committee that 'Cabinet had approved of the grant 1 to purchase a new site for the Secondary Department of the Akaroa District (High School on condition the High iSchool Board contributed £1600.
The area of the new site, which is situated in Joliie Street South is 2 acres 2 roods 15.1: perches and the total purchase money is £2550 of whi'ch sum the High School Board' will- find £1600 and: the Department £950. The properties are to 'be purchased from
Mr W. W. Williams : area 1 acre 2 roods 2>1.4 perches, price fil'3oo. Mr F. Keegan : area. 1 rood 19.7 perches, price £250.
N.'C. Hospital Board l , area 2 roods 14 perches, price £1000.
The new site will' provide a sufficient area for aru extensive playing area, a football and cricket ground, tennis and basket ball courts, etc., and the High ISchool Board have agreed to £150 being spent on the laying out of the ground with a maintenance grant of £50 per annum. THE NEW SIOHOOL. The .Canterbury Education Board's programme provides for the early erection of the new school and a substantial building is to ba erected costing about £2500. As the pupils of the Secondary Department have no playing area at all' it is to be hoped the new school will be erected' as soon as possible.-
