A si'tting of the court was held yesterday before H. P. Lawry, Esq. S.M.

The police prosecuted in the maintenance case brought by the Child Welfare ibranch of the Education Department against Leslie Allan Hammond for arrears of maintenance. Defendant was convicted and sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment with hard labour; the issue of the warrant to be suspended so long as defendant paid 2s 6d per week off arrears in additions to amount of current order In the case Alfred Victor Le Lievre ("Mr Holmes), v. Samuel David Curry ('Mr Amodeo), defendant was charged with unlawfully assaulting informant at Akaroa- on Bth. August. After hearing evidence defendant was convicted and fined £4 and costs £-2 7s, one half of the fine to go to informant. In the case W. C. Pool v. Allan Johnstone, judgment by default was given, for the amount claimed, £2 2s. and costs ,I'Os. In the claim- Akaroa Mail (Mr Amodeo) v W. H. Henning (Mr Holmes) £4 il7s fid, judgment was reserved.
