RABBIT CASE.
FINED £10 AND COSTS. On Friday at the Christchurch Magistrates' Court Alfred Ernest; Radford (Mr Johnston), inspector, under the Rabbit Nuicsanaes Act to; the Banks Peninsula Rabbit Beard of Trustees, proceeded against Margaret Coop (Mr Gresson) for failing to destroy rabbits on a property near Teddington. After the evidence for the pro- 1 ■ secutiom had been heard, Mr Gresson asked that the case be dismissed on the grounds that the notice which formed the basis of the charge was defective, and that there was no ;' proof that the "instructions given to the defendant by the inspector specified the acts the defendant was re-
■quired to perform to combat the nuisance. For the defence it was 'alleged that all the poison given to J the defendant by the inspector had .been laid, and that she was doing move than most people to abate the nuisance. His Worship said that it was clear from the evidence of the inspector that the defendant was not only injuring herself, but was permitting irabbits to breed to the detriment of I adjoining properties. Such circumstances demanded a substantial fine, and the defendant would be fined £10 and costs, and ordered to pay wit- , nesses' expenses and solicitors' fee.
