LYTTELTON REGATTA.

The Lyttelton Regatta, which was held on Friday, Now Year's D.y, waß as w 11 p.tronizsd a. ever, the publio turning out to it in thousands. Ihe Committee had provided numerous events, so that there was always some interesting spectacle for holiday makers. The one unfortunate accident of ihe day was the breaking away of a buoy marking tbe sailing couree. In con equence of this mishap the yacht raoes had to be postponed till the following day. The two warships, H.M.S. Pylades and Lizard were in harbour, and the races provided for these boa a were watched wi h the greatest interest. Steamers of all siz 8 made trips to the Heads and various bays in the harbour. The Committee worked very hard indeed, and aro much to be congratulated on the resulc of their effortß. SAILING HACKS. The Marine Band enlivened the proceedings by their excellent playing,- The following were the results :—

Yacht Race, Ist Class (for yachts 30f_p„ linear rating and over) ; first prize £30*, ' second prize filO-Kiaora (J, H. O-llinsj 33 5 linear rating, 12min 3&eo 1; Waitangi (Georgeson and Co) 4.37 re ting, scr 2; Roma (Crow and Hazlett) 302 linear rating* 18min 7srrc, also started. Kaiora got away quickest .and maintained the lead for the first round, Waitangi drawing rapidly away f-om Roma. The Wellington yacht rounded the reef buoy 26 ec before the LytteUbn boat, Roma going round 15 minutes &ft|t, Kaiora, Waitangi increased her lead, __m finished the second round two minutes ahead of Kaiora. In the short taok for the reel buoy Kaiora gained about SOseo on ifa-jV M* ellington boat. Roma finished the aeootfa round 16min astern. In running to Camp Bay Kaiora gained 14seo, and on the final return Waitangi regained a little, crossing the line lmin l.seo ahead of Kaiora, which, however, won on her time allowance by lOmin 47eec.
