COCKSFOOT.

TO THB EDITOR. Bir,—Looking into tbe cocksfoot busines. in London, I found that a good deal of harm had been done to the trade by a oiroal.r, dated March, 1903, issued by Messrs Lee.,' Bailey & Co , Christchurch, and which had been circulated amongst the large seed merchants at Home. The figures quoted in the circular were most misleading, as you oould not buy Beed of the weights mentioned (17 to 201b) out here at anything like the price, let alone deliver it in London at that figure. The prices quoted were at least 10s per owt below the prices ruling in London when the circulars reached there ; so that there was no business done for some time, until the merchants in London satisfied) themselves that the prices quoted were both misleading and inaceurat.. [ am at a loss to understand what is the object to be gained, except it is to keep the market down out here, QDhe following is a copy of the paragraph re-

f erred to :~" Cocksfoot.—The cr p of IS(J3 is considerably above the ay.rage as regards quantity, estimated at, 70,000 s. cks, and we expect very reasonable rates to rule. A considerable part of the crop lias yet to be harvested, and while some of the earlier parcels will be of go .d colour, we are rather afraid the bulk will be .ligh-lv on the daik si .c. The weight of t hi. y. ai's crop wll 1 c good, and 171b to 201b se.d .hculd be in the majority. We eipect to be able to this quality at 35s to .Os per cwt. c.i.f.
