The Maori CouncH'n Amendment Bill (HonpJ. Carroll) and Local Bodies Contract' ing Powers Bill (Mr Field) were introduced and read a first time.
The Hon. W. Hall-Jones moved that the amendment made by the Legislative Council In thU Inspection of Machinery Act Amendment Bill be agreed to by the House. The motion wa3 carried.
On Sir Joseph Ward's motion for the third reading of the City Single Flectorates Bill a long debate ensued. The Bill w») paißQj] on the voices. Sbptkmbbb 11
The Premier announced tbat Mr Justice Oonolly'e resignation had been accepted, and that: Mr Frederic Chapman had been appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court. The Premier congratulared Mr Maseey upon being selected Leader of the Opposition and said he had the respect of every Government member. Mr Massey thanked the Premier for his congratulation and kind •entiment", and declared that though the Opposition might criticise the Government, it would never hit below the belt.
The Bush and Swamp Crown Lauds Set , tlement Bill wan committed and the Bill was repoited without amendment. It wae stated that a conference of both Bonsee had arrived at an agreement on the amendments in dispute in the Dairy Industry Act Extension Bill.
