President Garfield.—Mr J. D. Piper announces he is going to travel the well know trotting horse, President Garneld, on the Peninsula this season. Full particulars appear in our advertising columns. It is reported that recently Jean Val]ean did a mile in 2.18, at Sydney, and there is no doubt many of the President's stock are turning out very fwt. The route the horse will travel is not yet arranged, but will be published in a short time. Catholic Conversazione.— Last night a moat successful ccnverssnione was held in the Oddfellowa'Hall. The room was well prepared, small tables being placed here and there and cards provided for all who wished to play. Akaroa and Wainui Road Board—The aunual meeting of this Board will be held in the Council Chambers, Duvauchelle's, at noon, on Saturday, September 12th, when the audited accounts will be presented. At 12 30, a public meeting of the ratepayers of the Board will be held to consider the proposal to borrow £3000 from the Governnit nl for metalling purposes.

It conßUts of photographs of tha officers of the Club, with their namcß engraved below. The arrangement oS the photographs is excellent, and the engraving well done. The photographs are the work of Messrs T. E. Taylor & Co., while the engraving and framing hus been done by A. H. ITart, Christohureh. The frame is a handsome oak one. Play will start at 2.15 p.m. sharp. — The return matoh between the Akaroa Distriot High School and the Outsiders was played on the Reoreation Ground yesterday afternoon, and after an interesting and even game, resulted in a draw. Each side scored three points, the tries being obtained by M. Bruce and J. Arm strong. For the school, A. Jaaohson at fail played a splendid game, whilst Munro, W. Jacobson Bruce 2, and Rhodes were promin ent ; and for the Outsiders Maßon was particularly good, Harris, Maguire, and Henning also playing well,
