Wednesday

The attendance was good, and bidding for &11 fat Btock brisk. Beef quite maintained last week's rute., the market for fat sheep and lambs being slightly firmer. Pigs were c little easier, but dairy and store cattle sold well, in the latter cla»s only ordinary Herts being offered. The store sheep offered were very few in number, and reoent prices Were maintained.

The yarding of store sheep was almost a reoord small one, only 637 being penned in ■mall lots, mostly e wes and hoggets. Last week'R rates were about maintained. One line of 56 breeding ewes sold at 19a, 56 ewes In lamb at 17s 9d," 184 ewe hoggets at 15s lid. 101 ewea at 15s 2d, 27 ewe hoggets at 14s 3d, smaller lots at 14s, 11b, 10s 4d, down to 8. 6d.

There was only a small entry of fat lambs, less than BCO offering. They were of from fair to good quality, and met with keen demand at a flight inorease all round on the nricfS obtained ... tha last s«!e The average prices were :—Frerzers from I2s 6d to 17a 4d. tees 17« 6d to 18s 9d.

F.vt sheep offurtd wore nearly all butchers' Borts. There was a small yarding, and pricps were at least equal, if not .lightly In advance of late rates. Prime wethers ranged from 23s Od to 27s 3d, lighter sorts 17s 6d to 23s 3d, prime ewes 17s 8d to 23s 6d, merino wethers for fretzi.g 18s to 19s 6d. wethers and maiden ewes 16s to 24s 7d, unfinished and light sorts down to 12* 6d.

Fat cattle totalled 156. being rather fewer than last week. The falling off was ohiefly in calves, of which tbere was a small yarding. The lines were all good to prime quality, last peek's values being quite maintained. Amongst the sales were the following North Tslard lot?-.—8 steers £9 7s 6d to £9 17» 6d. 6 cows £9 10', to £12 10a. 6 heiferr. £9 17s 6-1 to £11 15s. 5 bullocks, a very fine pen, from Mr Bidwell's. Featrerf. ok, W_it_r»ri». £13. £15 ss, £15 15. £16, and £16 15s: 4 Akaroa bullocks £13 17s 6d. £14, £15 ss, and £18 10s, (also sppcial line), 13 steers (from the Bays) £11 12s 6d to £13 7s 6d, other lines—Steers £7 7s 6d to jßll 7s 6d. t-eifers £5 7s 6d to £10 2s 6d, cows £5 5s to £11 2s 6d. calvfs 5e to £2 10s. This is equal to 29s to'»!32s 6d per 1001b of beef, some _mall lots going slightly higher.

Only ordinary lines of stores were penned, the entry not being large. Yearlingß sold at from 30s to 39?, 15 to 18 months £2 6s to £2 12s 6d. two year steers £5 17s 6d, two year heifers £4 5s to £5, three year old steers £6 17s 6d, dry cows £1 15a to £4 ss. A very fair lot of dairy stock was yarded, and although the entries offering were not big priced animals, some good sales took place at from £4 10s to £11 5->.

Pigs were in good supply, the market beicn slightly easier for baconers, porkera rem. ining firm at late quotations. Baconers sold at from 40* to 65s (equal to 4|d per lb), poikers 32s to 39s 6d (equal to per lb), choppers £3 10s to £4 15s, stores from 7s to 14s for weaners, and 17a to 22s for medium size.
