COMING OF AGE.

On Thursday evening last. June 4th, Mr and Mrs R. Latter, of Barry's Bay, iuvited a number of Christchurch and Peninsula friends to a b.ll and supper, to celebrate the ooming of age of their eldest son, Mr Roberb Le Clerc Latter, It was very bad weather, indeed, but in apite of that more than eighty guest, were present, including some from Little River, L-verick's, Holmes' Gougha and Figeon Bays aud other localities. Once arrived, the bad weather outside was speedily forgotten in J he hearty welcome and the unrestrained mirth that prevailed. Never were pleasanter hosts than Mr and Mrs Latter, never a more genial c.mpauy thoroughly determined to enjoy themselves. After the supper had been enjoyed, and most thoroughly enjoyed it was. ami the company assembled iv the dining room, and the health of Mr LeClerc Latter, in honour of whose attaining his majority the festivities were held, was proposed by Mr Jacob son. The toast was drunk with music.l honours, and many hearty cheer, wers given, and the reply of the young gentlemai was excellent y ron .ered. Mr H. E. Lalievre proposed the health of the host i>n I hostess, Mr and Mrs batter, in a very neat and appropriate speech, and Mr R. L.tter'n response was au exceedingly happy one. Dancing was th„__ resumed, and general regret was felt when inexorable time pointed out the necessity ef separation.

On Friday night, the residents of Barry's Bay had another dance in the schoolroom, iv honour ot the same auspicious event, and at this also, '• all went merry as a marriage bell."

Particulars of the second day's coursing are appended, results being as follow :— Kaiserine won the stake of £15, Huku won £5, Kaiwarra £3, and Bouncing Boy and Banßhee £1 eich. Following are the details:— Bec_nd Ronnd—May Bird beat Alderahob Kaiwarra beat Whangaroa, B .tishe. beat

Fourth Ronnd—Kaiserine beit Kiiwari., Brku a bye. Final—Kaiserise beat Huku. A meeting of members w.a held at the Criterion Hotel en Saturday night. Pre.ent —Messrs Q. Miekay (chairman), A. Lelievre Gibbs, Bell, J. Curry, and Jacobson. The minutes were confirmed, and the prizes passed for payment. It was resolved the Hon. Sec. write to Mr Ware thanking him for acting as judge, also to Mr T. Nutt for acting as slipper, and Messrs G. Robinson and H. Nutt as lints men. On the motion of Mr A. Lelievre, s< aonded by Mr Bell, it was decided to a_k Mr T. Nntt to accept a locket as mamonto of hia services as slipper. A vote of thanks Was passed to Meases Birdling B.ob. for the use of the ground. The Hon.
