DECKING THE WI'ARK Cr Newton moved—That iv preparing the estimates the Finance Committee take into consideration the complete decking of the new whatf. Seconded by Cr Armstrong and carried. _ SIGNING CHF.QDKS. Crs Taylor, L'efee. Newton and tl c Mayor were appointed to sign ch< quee, DEIJIT AND CREDIT. Cr Henning said he noticed in the Finance Report one of the Council's accounts w a largely in credit and the oth-r en the debit side. Was the one allowed to tell against the other, or was inten-Bt paid on the debit in spite of the credit to the other account? He noticed some arraugunent had been oome to on this matter in Chiiatchurch. The Mayor said the accounts wer6 by law kept reparate, acd one was not allowed to against tne other. Their debit was, however, so small it was hardly necessary to ask for an alteration. Cr Henning concurrad. LIGHTING a, Cr Checkley said that wilh regard to the lighting of the town the ranger, Mr Hahn, had consented to act, but g»ve it up in a week, finding it was incompatable with hiß other duties Mr Jesson had then been tempo-ally eppoi'ited by tho Mayor, and had been carrying out the business sat'itfac torily. He moved that Mr Jesson be permanently appoiLted. Hie Worship the Mayor s.ld Mr Jesson bad been doing the work well, ai d seconded the resolution, which after a brief discussion on'tbe lamps, was carried. JUBILEE MEMORIAL. Or Henniug asked what had been done regarding the Jubilee Memorial. The Mayor explained the action taken c town clock for a Troopers' Memorial. The m- Government had been written to three times on the matter, but no satisfactory reply had breu received. In other cases, Government granted half the cost of town ** f_- Taylor thought that fresh application should be mdc at once. It'was agreed that the Town Clerk should again write to the Government on the matter. Wr ASPHALTING JOLIB STREHT. Cr Armstrong advocated the asphalting of the west side of Jolie Street north, from m the Mail Office corner, Balguerie Btreer, to the Recreation Ground.
