INQUEST.

An inqnest was held on Tuesday last at Le Bon's Bay, touching the death of Caroline Amelia Bailey, wife of Chas. Bailey, before H. G. Orbell, Esq., J. P., acting Coroner. The jury ct-reisted of Messrs Barker (foreman), Leonardo, McCullough, Aldridge, Hall and Cwclntofch. Constable Whatman conducted the enquiry and called Chas. Bailey, husband of the deceased, who deposed that hie wife was a native of Denmark, aged 41. When witness left for Christchurch come days previously deceased had been in her usual goorl health. He had always considered her as enjoying very good health. From information received he returned fromOhiietchurch on morning of April 27th and found her dead.

Helen Bailey, aged thirteen, deposed : That on the day previous to death de ceased had been for a walk and was apparently in her usual health, excepting that she complained of a bad sore throat. On Sunday night she went to bad about half past nine, and witness and youngest brother slept in same bed with her. During the night witness woke up through her brother's crying and her mother was apparently aeleep. Abou , ; six o'clock in the morning strove to wake deceased, but could not do so, and went for her eldeet sister, who said that her mother was dead and sent for assistance.

Annie Bailey, aged nineteen, corroborated her eister Helen's evidence.

Dr Hargreaves deposed that he had made a post mortem examination on the body and found the organs very fatty, the heart especially so. He was of opinion that de ceased died of syncope, due to a fatty heart.

The jury found a verdict in accordance with the medical testimony.
