WEDNEBDAY Messrs Mateon and Co report :— The entry of shore sheep totalled 5843, and weie mostly ewes. The beet olasses of breeding ewee and forward wethers sold Wf-U, and there was a better enquiry for lambs. The supply of beef comprised 150 head, mostly cows and heifere. The quality wae only moderate, and prioes for good sorts showed an advance of 3<i per 1001b. A line of eight eteere from Mr A. F. Roberts, Wetteifield, made £8 17s 6d to £9 17s 6d ; other tteers, £8 10s to £10 16a; heifere, X' 6 7-i 6d to £8 10s, and cowb £4 17s 6d to £8 7e 6d, and two extra, £6 15s and £9 10e, equa' to 26a to 30s per 1001b. A email entry of veal calves sold at 10s to £3, according to weight and quality. There were only a few etore cattle entered, and the business transacted was not sufficient to record. There was a good demand for dairy cows, which sold at £4 10a to £11. Trera was a moderate entry of pigs, and all classes were dull of sale. Tbough the wholesale prices of bacon and hams is quoted at 9d to 10d, f.0.b., the rates given in the market for baconere are only equal to 4|d to 4|d per lb, and breeders of pigs are aekicg why there ehould be euch a maiked difference between the fresh and the cured article.
