THE BOROUGH ELECTION
The eltction for tho nine aeats on the Borough Council took place ou Wednesday. Great in f rest was taken, and most of the candidates were canvassing hard all dsy. A large numb r of people waited round the Council Chanlere, to hear the result of t!ie {ole, which was dfelared at time o'clock. After the declaration of the poll, Messrs Newton, Armstrong, Ingram, Lelievre and Chappell returned thanks to the burgesses for their kind support As Mr Checkley was unavoidably absent, the Mayor at hie special request returned thanks to the electors on his behilf.
The following is the result of the poll ing : —
Checkley, George, 1?5; Newton, John Robert, 120; Armstrc'g, George, 119; Lelievre, Eugene Francois. 104; Leete, Cha-les Walter, 96; Taylor, Thomas Edward, 95 ; Henning, William Henry, 83 ; Cheppell, Thomas William, 80; Munri, Alexander Robert, 77; Ingraai, Wilfrel Beach, 62; Wolfreys, Sydney Edg»r, 52; Lewitt. Thomts, 47.
The first nine are elected to saats in the Council.
