SOCIAL EVENING AT PIGEON BAY.

Some four weeks ago tha Messrs Goodwin Bros., of this Bay—to celebrate the completion of a huge granary they had built—invited the residents and their acquaintances to spend a social evening in the new shed. The affair was well attended and highly appreciated—indeed, so pleased wete those who attended with the eveuing's entertaioment provided by the Messrs Goodwin Bros., that a return social, to be given by the residents, to these gentlemen was decided upon. Friday night last was the night selected, and a peifect night it was. A bright moon snining, a balmy air just crisp enough to make a ride or drive to the scene of operations enjoyable. Besides the Messrs Goodwin, who were, of course, the guests of the evening, a great many other invitations had been issued, and the result was that, at the time appointed to commence, the large hall presented quite an animated appearance. The granary is the largest in the district, being 100 feet long by 30 feet wide, with an unbroken floor space. It is two stories high and the floors are laid with 4 inch boards, beautifully dressed up smooth and perfect for dancing on. It was brilliantly lighted up. A smoking uom had been improvised down stairs for the gentlemen ; a ladies' cloak room, and a refreshment room upstairs, where assistants were busy attending to the wants of the guests. On behalf of the residents Mr John Pettigtew acted as hostand|extended a cordial welcome to all present. Messrs G. Pettigrjw and E. Giddens (violins) furnished the dance musio, while'Mr J. Crane proved a moat efficient M.C. Dancing, interspersed with songs and games, was ■ he order of the evening, and everybody appeared to euj y themselves to the utmost. In one ot the set danoes your oorre pondent counted no lest than 36 couples on the floor, and there wa» room for very many more. Whilst at the same time many were sitting round or amui- i ing themselves in other ways. Before separating Mr A. Goodwin, for Goodwin Broa., thanked the residents for their kindness in getting up the entertainment in their honour, and said that "it gave them the grcateat pleasure to meet so many old friends " And so dosed one of the most pleasant of many pleasantly spent evenings.
