AKAROA SWIMMING CLUB.

A series of races for prizes given by Mr, C. L. Milne, the president of thia newly formed swimming club, took place at the Baths on Tuesday evening last at 6 p.m., in I the presence of a large attendance of spectators, who evinced great interest in the competitions, aud promise is given that this sport will become very popular iv Akaroa. The racing wai splendid and good handicapping produced excellent finishes in all the events. The starting was in the able hands of Mr. H. G. Robinson, who got the contestants off the mark with precision, whilßt His Worship the Mayor fulfilled the duties of judge to the entire satisfaction of every one. Following are the results : — BOYB UNDER 12, first pr;'zi 12* 6d, second 7 8 6d—E. Black 1 J. Poole 2. _G. Hay ward also started. A good race, all finishing close together. Boys under 14; fitsfc prize 12s 6d, second 6d, 50yds—W. Munro 1, C. Lelievre 2. W. Jacobson and W. Poole also started. A splendid finish, all competitors being -within a few inches of each other. Munro just managed to win at the post, the second and third neatly le.il. Boys under 16 ; first prize 12s 6d, second 7a 6d ; 50yds—G. Earnshaw 1, W. Munro 2. F. Lelievre and J. Walker also started. A capital race, won by a few inches. Consolation Race—J. Walker 1. A handicap race open to all members of the Club will tako place at an early date for a trophy given by Mr. F. K. Hunt.
