A MASSACRE.

Terrible news is just to hand from New Guinea. A party of savages attnoked the miners on the Mombare go'dnMd on Jannary 14th. Mr Green, thq Government Agent, six miners, five native police, and twenty-eight native carriers were butchered. There are -no details at present. Later particulars show that Green, bavin? decided to shift the police camp to higher country, was engaged in the erection of a building, aided by three native poUce, others being employed in clearing the, surrounding country. Green went on top of the structure, leaving his weapons on the ground, when it is supposed that one of the native police on the building treacherously signalled to the others to attack. Being defenceless Green fell an easy victim, his body being terribly mutilated. In connection with the massacre it Was stated that five miners were murdered io attempting to escape down the river on a raft. This was i scarcely, accurate, and it is believed has reference to the experiences of the men who arrived in Sydney by the German warship Falke. Two men, named Fry and Hayler, were murdered, but Steele, Obl6en and Davis escaped. There were evidently two separate attacks, because Green was alive and well when the miners took to the raft.
