There were a great many people on the Recreation ground oti Wednesday afternoon. As a matter of course, tbe cricket match was the centre of attraction, great' iinUrest being manifested b.Jth by our nautical visitors and the residents. The' squadron te*m is a very good oneindeed,; including some excellent bats, amongst" •which Meases Cox, Swan, and 'Ijiea-j tenant Greatorex .may be specially -mentioned. Mr Swan's performance of, ♦69 net out was excellent, and ''the 39 of Lieuteuant Greatorex a fine display.; Ihe-fielding was excellent, particularly when we coosider bowmucb of their time is spent at sea. Lieutenant Higgineon watevery euceessful with the belli Onr •own team were necessarily got together very hurriedly, and'by no means represented our foil strength. Aβ usual, 'Harrison made a determined stand, and put a careful and useful 20 together. W. Shadbolt's 26 was an excellent performance, whilst Teylore 12 not out was most useful and certainly saved bis siele from a follow-on. The bowling and fielding of the home team *?an only! be characterised as extremely moderate. Appended are the seem:-—
