AKAROA COUNTY RACING CLUB.

+~ The annual meeting was held on: Saturday evening at the Hill- Top Hotel. Present—Messrs, H. D. Buchanan (in chair), R. Paton, G- Robinson, B. Barker, R. Latter, J. F. Buchanan, 11. C. Jacobson, T. Quealy, G. Birdling, and Mclnnes. The minutes of th* last annual meeting were read and confirmel. The balance sheet was then read. This showed the receipts to be £383 6s 3d : of which subscriptions were £74 lQs, nominations and acceptances £118 9s 9d, sale of cards £18 2s, gate receipts £56 13s 6d, totalisator £102 16s, sale hack £7, miscellaneous 19s. . Total, £383 6s 3d The expenditure had been —stakes £215, printing and advertising £31 3s 9d, saddle cloths £6 ss, band £6 6s, hurdles, timber and other material £8 19s 2d, labour £12 13s, rent of course £5 ss, starter's fee £5 ssj total - isator tax £23 5s 6d, stationary and stamps £2, refund, commission, exchange, &c. £2 2s 6d, credit balance at ' Bank £63 3-s _d. Total, £383 6a 3d, The accounts bad been duly audited and declared correct by Mr W. H. Gundry. The balance-sheet was unanimously adopted, members expressing their satisfaction at the very satisfactory financial , position of the Clnb, which, commencing the year with a considerable deficit, had. after paying all expenses—some of which 1 were of an exceptional nature —the handsome balance of over £63 to its credit. 1 It was pointed out that this result was . due in a great measure to the unwearied energy of Mr T. Quealy, the Hon. Sec. The Colonial Secretary wrote granting totalisntor permit for one meeting during every racing season. Messrs W. B. Hammond and Chas. O'Reilly, owner and rider of DaKum, : wrote claiming the second stakes in the Open Trot, on the ground that the horse won the race by more than a distance, > and was therefore entitled to both first and second money. After long discussion aa to time application had been made, etc, the corres- , pondence was referred to the Trotting Association, on the motion pf man, seconded by Mr, Paton. Tbe Hon. Sec. was instructed to inform the Trotting Association that the 1 stakes had been paid on March 18th ; that no protest was made, and that the . first intimation of the claim was received on the Ist June; also that there was no distance post on the course. It was decided that all last year's paying members be considered members of the Club till March 1, 1897, and so on every year, but that anyone not paying his subscription on or before that date should be struck off the roll of membersi The following officers were. then appointed :—Patron, Hon: W. Ac a slight token of the members' appreciation of the services rendered to

the Club by the handicapper, Mr Oreswell, it wrs unanimously decided to make him an honorary member of the Club. ' Messrs'M. Cooney, A. C. Knight, F. Jackson, Wm. Wright, EL C. Orbell, W. nnd JnO. Parkinson, Mclnnes and L. Wilson were elected members of the Club. Mr R. Latter moved a hearty vote of thanks to the retiring officers, who had all worked well in the interests of the Club. He wished particularly to mention the great services rendered by Mr Buchanan, the Hon; Treasurer, and Mr T. Quealy, the Hon. Sec. ' The motion was seconded by Mr Jacobson and carried unanimously. Mr Quealy refusing to accept any honorarium for his valuable services, was elected a life member of the Club. The programme was then considered and finally adopted ns under, a Ladies' Bracelet race being added, and the Open Trot money increased by £10 :— 1. District Maiden Handicap Hurdle Race of £20, second horse to receive £5 from the stake. Nomination 10s ; acceptance 10s. Distance one mile and ■ a half. 2 District Maiden Plate, ©f £20 ; seconc horse to receive £2 I.os from the stake. Entrance £1 j weight tor One mile. ' 3 Peninsula Cup (open) ot £45 ; Becond horse £5 from tbe stake. Mouiination 22s 6d; acceptance 22s 6L One mile and a quarter. 4 District Handicap Trot, of £20; for horses that have never won £10 or over in any one advertised race ; second horse £2 10s from the stake. Nomina-, tion 10s ; acceptance 10s. Two miles. 5 District Ladias' Bracelet Race, of £20 ; fiast horse bracelet value £15 ; second horse bracelet value £5 Open to all district horseß that have never won an advertised race of over £10. Minimum weight 12 stone» One mile. 6 Plying Handicap, open, of £30 ; second horse £5 from tbe stake: ' Nomination 15s ; acceptance 15s. £ix furlongs. 7 Handicap Trot, open, of £40 ; second horse £5 from the stake.
