Board of Education.—At the Board's meeting, the Little River Committee were permitted to use the £2 grant towards a floor in the teacher's house. Crayfish Tinning.—We are pleased to notice that Messrs Irvine and Stevenson, of Dunedin, have returned to Akaroa, and intend again setting up their tinning factory here. M' livineis at present in Akaloa, and expects to have the plant ready to deal with any amount of crayfish on and after Thursday. The factory is to be established in the old house on Mr Narbey's property.

Perry, larcency of a bicycle, ordered to pay costs of prosecution and enter into recognizances of good con. duct for six months ; Amve Murdoch, three months'imp isonment for larcency from the person; Stephen Fanett. three months' imprisonment for criminal assault.

South Africa —There are great rejoicings in South Afrie» at President Kruger's promise to do his best to obtain a mitigation of the sentences, which is regarded as a pledge o f racial re union. Stocks rose 50 per cent; and President Kruger was loudly cheeed in Johannesburg. The Transvaal Government has sent officers to the frontier to verify Sir H.
