ELLESMERE LICENSING COMMITTEE

The annual meeting: was held on Wed-* nesday at the Court House, Little River. PrHsent— Mei»rt> H. W. Bishop (Chairman) Dily, Birnett.-Joblin, Perm Bradley and Harris. The minutes of the prior meeting were confirmed. The Police report was read, and was very favourable as regarded tho conduct of the honses. The roof of tho Doyleston Hoteil wae faulty, and the ceilings spotted and cuttiins nnd blinds dirty. The police also recommended ladder for fire escape be provide! for all two-storey hotelp. The temporary transfer of the license of the Southbridge Hotel from Horace Peck to H. P. Ro«bridge was confirmed, Tho Clerk to the Licensing Beach reported that the application for the license of Ihe Southbridge H»t'-d had been three days late : that for tha Royal Hotel* Sbut'ibridge. not sent in till May 22nd, whilst R Paton. of the Hill Top, bad only applied tbe previous day.

The Chairman read the clause of the Act giving the Committee power to waive objections to tho due. carrying outof the formalities of the. Act, nnd.. The Chairman said the adjournment was the usual course, and he should vote for the amendment.

The apnlication waa therefore adjourned | to June 24th to allow of the repairs being eff'ctod. Mr Bametfc moved—'That the police furnish a report on the fire escapes of all tbe hotels in the district, to be in by next meeting.' Seconded by Mr Bradley. Mt Daly said tha police report: saidr present arrangements were satisfactory. Mr Bar ml;: withdrew his mot ; on, and Mr Joblin moved—'That the Ini'pectu'B recommend tion re procuring fire .escape ladderefor two-storey hotels be carried out.' Mr Barnett seconded. The Chairman did not think they had the power to enforce such a regulation.: as there was nothing regardiog'the matter in the Act.
