Wk believe there are lew on the Peninsula who do not wish Her M every possible happiness, and pro anxious to make her birthday a season of festivity and happiness Throughout'the great empire over which the Queen rules, titer' is invariably high r<j doing when another year of greatness is added to her unparalleled reign. We hive no -pace to quote I hose plain statist'cs that show the wonderful increase of British posses sinus and British trade since the death of the Sailor King, but what we look upon as the most remarkable advancement is that which has taken p!ac:i in the general culture and comfort ot Her Majesty's subjects. Decade by decade, thanks to wide statesmanship, and tin-' spread of education, want and misery show a lessened front, and we can fairly hope that before the expiration of
another sixty years the golden age of the fabled past will be realised. The present state of things is a triumphant proof of the excellence of our system oHiovernment. Never did greater freedom prevail, never did kindlier queen grasp the sceptre, or wiser statesman guide t'tuhelm o*' the State than during the Victorian Km, and we are sure all our readers will repeat with 'heartfelt good wishes that phrase in the National \nthem which runs : " Lon.{ may she reign."
